Confidence?
con·fi·dent: /ˈkɒnfɪdənt/ Show Spelled[kon-fi-duhnt] –adjective: Sure of oneself; having no uncertainty about one's own abilities, correctness, successfulness, etc.; self-confident; bold: a confident speaker.
The other day, while on the train, I was talking to a co-worker of mine. She is an extremely wise playwright and I find we always have the best conversations about life theory, art, style and finding oneself. Yesterday's conversation circled around "success" and why some people find it in professional settings while others are left eating their dreams at night. Now, personally, I believe that God has a plan for us all - but I also am a strong believer in watching (action) as well as praying. How many times does the Lord tell us to take action and not be lazy? Anywho, as we are going back and forth my thought partner says loudly,
Hmmm...I thought, "is confidence that "it" factor, we all see but not literally see in rising stars?"
So now, I sit here with my Redbush tea and cream staring at my computer screen, wondering...what is confidence? Like, what is it really? Where does it come from?
Now, I am an observer of people and of the world. So from a young age, I noticed that there are key elements to teaching someone how to "act" confident:
1. Shoulders back.
2. Head up.
3. Speak with "authority"
4. Look'em in the eyes.
5. Firm handshake.
6. Walk with purpose.
7. Stand up straight.
8. Smile.
9. Give them just enough but never too much.
10. Remember the balance between being grateful but also remembering that you deserve it.
When someone is a confident person are they confident in everything that they do? Is part of the whole "confidence" thing, faking it until you make it?
What is the confidence line crossed and a person is cocky?
Quick story: During the Mayweather and Mosley fight. Mosley hits Mayweather so hard that Mayweather's legs buckle. Mike, who loves Mayweather, screams "no, babe I think he is going to go down - stay up, Mayweather...stay up!" The crowd is cheering because Mayweather may lose this fight (he is a big mouth that has never lost a fight), but Mayweather does holds on to Mosley and stays standing. He looks slightly shook and when it's time for both fighters to go back to their corners, Mayweather sits there - staring at the ring. He isn't listening to anyone who is talking to him. He isn't speaking. And all of a sudden, Mike says, "he isn't going to lose, baby, I can see it." And all of a sudden, the fight commentators start to make statements about how Mayweather has adjusted to this fight he is slightly changing his strategy while keeping his style. Soon the mood changes and he is forcing Mosley to fight in a more defensive way and Mosley is starting to change his fighting style to assimilate Mayweather's style. At that point, the commentators began announcing that there's no hope for Mosley. He has lost his confidence and is playing by Mayweather's rules and no one wins when they play by Mayweather's rules.
So, this may end up being just jibberjabber on this site, but I would love for some one, heck every one to have this dialogue with me. What is confidence? How do you know someone has it? Is it the "it" factor that we all see but not really see? Do confident people lose (take it how you like to take it)?
I feel like the word "confidence" is constantly thrown around but there is very little dialogue about what it really is.

"Just think about it, Shelby, it's all about confidence. That's what it's all
about. It's about who is confident when the stakes are high."
