Book Collectors
Some people collect art, others wine, and then there are people that collect clothes...however Mike and I are book collectors.
And you ask: Is a book collectors hobby complete without a visit to the cafe? I think not.
When we were teens in Cincinnati, we realized that one of our favorite dates was going to Barnes and Nobles by Newport Aquarium, ordering two lattes, a chocolate peanut butter crunch, grabbing a stack of magazines, a table by the window (where we could look at the bridge and river), and a book to go.
Going to a bookstore/library and cafe didn't stop after high school. In college, our way of escape was the Hamilton library and Wild Bean Cafe. We would find a corner in the library, where we could drink our coffees, read a few magazines, and talk about the future, present and the past.
This leads me to Brooklyn, Barnes and Noble/the Brooklyn Library and cafes are still a huge part of our relationship. For us, there is nothing like the nostalgic feeling of walking down aisles and aisles of books, reading magazines that we would never subscribe to, drinking hot drinks (this Wednesday it was eating frozen yogurt), taking a window seat, and leaving with a book. It's a great feeling to know that that night, we will cuddle up with the one that we love and a juicy read, whether a cookbook, a Christian book, a book about entertaining, an autobiography, a fiction, or a literacy book.
Besides a "pink room", one day I hope to have a large home library, filled with books: some I've read, others I want to read, some for decoration, some for memory sake, and others simply because they are vintage. Mike and I will sit down there for hours with homemade coffee and one of our books - no need to go to the bookstore and collect more books...
