During my morning treadmill appointment, I spotted some information that shocked me!!!
Glamour is JUST now getting a hold of the benefits of Petroleum Jelly! COME ON NOW! Black women from all generations "BEEN knew" the benefits of Petroleum Jelly. To be honest, I don't think I've been into a black household, rich or poor, that doesn't have some "Vaseline in the cupboard." Anyways, I did find a few cute DIY facts in the magazine. For the most part, I knew all the benefits and wanted to add a few myself:
1. Glossy eyes: Put a small amount over shadow—or even on bare lids—for chic shine.
2. Boost lashes: Dab on lashes and brows before bed to keep them supple and strong.
3. Moisturize lips: All day.
4. Protect skin while coloring hair: Apply around your hairline to prevent staining.
5. Soften cracked heels: Coat feet at night, put on cotton socks, wake up smooth.
6. Chisel cheeks: Pat a (tiny!) bit onto cheekbones.
7. Nourish nails: Massage into cuticles to soften them.
8. Undo foundation overkill: Tap it along skin to break it up.
9. Sooth cold-inducing chapping: It beats fancy creams for the dry skin around the nose—those can sting.
10. If you don't use jelly: Make a flavored lip gloss. Mix with Kool-Aid!
(Get out of here! Not trynna be stereotypical, but I think this was a black woman/man's article)
My list continues:
- As mascara - curl eye lashes and then apply mascara
- Help prevent diaper rash on babies
- Add to your hairline:
- Before a relaxer
- To keep down fly-aways (to lay down my baby hair). Use with toothbrush*
- Use on my elbows and knees.
- On your face
- As a moisturizer
- Before a fight - to make sure that you don't get scratches on your face, "where my Vaseline at, G?"
- Dab on burns, rash, or small cuts
* There was also a list on the use of toothbrushes. The list included
- Get rid of flyaways: Dab hair gel on the bristles, then smooth along your hairline. Again, a common fact in the black community for generations - but, again, there were a few fun DIY tricks! Read the article to find a few fun tricks for cotton swabs as well.
Enjoy!
