College Advice NEEDED
I recently got an e-mail from a young woman that is entering college in the fall. She wrote me an incredible e-mail explaining her past, present and future. She wanted my advice on how to "snag Mr. Right" in college and when I was responding with some advice that I had (although I didn't snag Mr. Right in college...lol), I thought there were details in her e-mail that could additionally use some advice. So, I asked her if I could publish it and give her a list (she is not my facebook friend) of all the advice that others had for her. In order to give background information on this amazing young woman, I asked a few questions and this is what I got:
Here were some of the things I included in my e-mail:
Love y'all and thanks for helping,
Shelby
- She is about to start college in the fall.
- Her parents are strict, so she's never had a real boyfriend.
- She really wants a boyfriend - like a serious relationship - she wants to find love.
- She doesn't know what she wants to do in school - she is thinking something in the sciences.
- She NEVER really went to clubs or parties during high school - never drank, did any drugs...
- She doesn't know anyone going to her college
- She will be staying in the dorms
- She doesn't have a "best" friend at home, although she has a few close friends..
- Her parents' don't talk to her about college life, but she heard it is fun!
Here were some of the things I included in my e-mail:
- Do NOT talk to the older senior boys when you first get to school-- you have to separate the genuine ones from the "who's the new meat" kind of guy.
- Remember to have fun, but people do not forget. As much as we like to say that college is a bubble and it is -- we all get it, it's fun, but don't do anything that you won't feel comfortable being remembered for in ten years. People do not forget.
- Don't EAT the fruit in the punch unless you want some spice - those things have been soaking in liquor all day...
- Be consistently you - don't try to be someone else in front of different crowds, people will realize that you are heavily confused about who you are and like you around just for manipulation purposes
Love y'all and thanks for helping,
Shelby
